Biography
This memorial website was created in the memory of our daughter/sister, Erin
Babineau who was born in Connecticut on July 12, 1994 and passed away from a
vehicle accident on February 22, 2005 at the young age of 10.
Prior to February 2005, there were the five of us, Jeff and Donna, and our
three children Rachel, Erin, and Cory our son. After that fateful morning,
we are left to honor her memory and cherish the moments of a special child
that was taken away from us so senselessly.
Erin was the happiest child you would ever meet. She was always smiling and
full of life. People would ask us "Is she ever not smiling?" Whether on
the pitcher's mound or finishing her dismount off the balance beam, that
infectious smile was always there. She loved to hold hands, sit close, and
give kisses upon kisses. She never wanted to say "goodbye." Her laugh
would make other's laugh. She liked to make up goofy dances and pretend she
was a teacher to her younger brother. She had a great sense of humor.
I remember when she was in first grade, she asked Santa for mouth braces so
she could look like her sister. She looked up to her and did everything she
did. She excelled in everything -- from competing in gymnastics since the
age of 5, pitching in the girl's fast pitch softball league, playing the
piano, to being a highly academic student receiving several awards. Her
elementary school presented our family with the "Gold Presidential Award for
Academics" knowing that Erin would have achieved this on her own based upon
her grades. She did it all! She had a ton of friends and a loving family.
Her future was endless. Her achievements unmatched. Now we will never see
her achieve her goals but instead live with the empty void left in our
hearts.
"We thought we were taking a family vacation to Paradise," but no, we
returned home to Connecticut without one of our children. Erin was killed
while our family was being transported from the airport to our hotel in
Boscobel, Jamaica. We booked an "all-inclusive" family vacation, which
included our transfers to and from the airport, and we never even made it to
the hotel. Our driver was extremely careless with no regard to the safety of
his passengers. He was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit a
truck head-on. The driver was killed instantly and Erin, who was sitting
directly behind the driver, was critically injured. She was airlifted to
Florida and died two days later from severe head trauma.
We made the decision to donate Erin's organs. She saved two other's lives.
It was a very difficult decision but one that was made truly because, while
alive, Erin would never hesitate to give to others in her short life.
Thousands of people came to pay their respects. She never realized how many
people she touched in her life. We continue to miss her every day and
cherish those ten wonderful years we had with her. We will love her
forever. She will always be a part of our lives and watch over us from up
above.
